📏 The Only Sizing Guide You'll Ever Need to Measure Your Dog Correctly

Get the Fit Right the First Time
The most common question we get isn't about style — it's "what size do I order?" Skip the guesswork with this simple, breed-agnostic measuring guide.
Three Measurements You Need
- Neck Girth — Measure around the base of the neck where a collar would sit. Add half an inch for comfort.
- Chest Girth — Measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. This is the most important number for outfit fit.
- Back Length — Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail along the spine.
Tools You'll Need
A flexible measuring tape works best. No tape? A piece of string measured against a ruler afterward works just as well.
Tips for Accurate Measuring
- Measure while your dog is standing naturally, not sitting or stretching
- Keep the tape snug but not tight — you should be able to slide two fingers underneath
- If your dog is between two sizes, always size up for comfort, especially for growing puppies
Still Unsure?
Every product page on Petaloons includes a breed-specific size chart cross-referenced with these three measurements — use both together for the most accurate fit.
